Despite containing several gorgeous poems, the anthology as a whole is overshadowed by the handful of pieces with questionable implications. Still, Atwood’s inspiration radiates in the breadth of work featured in the collection. From selections on feminism and climate change to poems clearly written in the wake of personal tragedy, Dearly is distinctly and unmistakably Margaret Atwood. And its high points serve as a brilliant reminder of why she is considered one of the greatest writers alive today.
